Wendy’s Signature Chili Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of fresh ground beef
  • 1 quart of tomato juice
  • 1 can (29 ounces) of tomato purée
  • 1 can (15 ounces) of red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) of pinto beans, drained
  • 1 medium-large onion, finely chopped (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup of diced celery
  • 1/4 cup of diced green bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup of chili powder (adjust for preferred spice level)
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin (enhance for deeper flavor)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain off excess fat.
  2. Transfer the cooked beef into a 6-quart pot.
  3. Add all the remaining ingredients to the pot.
  4. Cover the pot and let the chili simmer over low heat for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes to prevent sticking.
  5. Alternatively, you can prepare this chili in a slow cooker. Cook on low heat for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
