Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 ounces of brown mushrooms, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 8 ounces of Provolone cheese slices, chopped (use 6oz if you prefer less cheese)
  • 6 brioche hamburger buns

Instructions:

  1. Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and allow it to brown until a deep brown crust forms before breaking it apart.
  2. Stir the ground beef occasionally, allowing it to brown evenly until about 50% of it develops a deep crust.
  3. Remove the beef from the skillet, leaving any fat behind. Add the butter, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms to the skillet. Let them brown for 1-2 minutes without stirring, then continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet.
  5. In a small cup, mix the beef broth and cornstarch until well combined.
  6. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and the beef broth/cornstarch mixture to the skillet.
  7. Cook the mixture until it thickens slightly, leaving about 75% of it above the liquid, for about 3-5 minutes.
  8. Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped Provolone cheese until it melts and combines with the mixture.
  9. Serve the Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes on toasted brioche buns.

Enjoy your delicious Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes!
