Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 ounces brown mushrooms, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 8 ounces chopped provolone cheese slices (use 6 ounces if you prefer less cheese)
  • 6 brioche burger buns

Instructions:

  1. In a large cast iron pan, brown the ground beef until a dark crust forms, then break it apart into smaller pieces.
  2. Stir the beef occasionally and continue cooking until about half of it has developed a deep crust.
  3. Remove the beef from the pan and add butter, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Allow them to brown for 1-2 minutes before stirring, then repeat until they’re evenly browned.
  4. Return the beef to the pan. In a small cup, mix together beef broth and cornstarch. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and the beef broth-cornstarch mixture to the pan.
  5. Cook until the mixture is slightly thickened, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  6. Turn off the heat and stir in the provolone cheese until melted.
  7. Serve the mixture on toasted brioche buns.
